Malmö University College started in 1998 and is Sweden’s eighth biggest university college to date. Today, over 20,000 students study one of our six domains of education – some on longer programmes, others on shorter courses. Malmö University College aims to be an open university college – open to a constantly shifting labour market, new pedagogical forms and interdisciplinary subject competencies. Malmö University College also stands for critical thinking and the formulation of alternative and long-ranged solutions to the problems of today.
The university college is focused more on enterprise and its aim is for every student to be able to teach within the working categories of their subjects.
The university college strives to promote a reflection of the society in which we work. That is why we endeavour to entice students from environs where university education is not a tradition and thus contribute with a varied background.
Malmö University College's three perspectives are constantly present in training and in research: gender, environment and migration ethnicity. Study and research at Malmö University College, therefore, are, from the point of view of these three perspectives, to be stamped with a critical attitude. Malmö University College is set right in the centre of Malmö. The greater parts of operations are run on the so-called University islet that lies in one of Sweden's most exciting and expansive city quarters: Västra hamnen. The development of Malmö, from industrial city to city of knowledge, is all the more obvious when you see how the university college’s buildings fuse with Kockum's old wharf area and other classical industries. The ontological faculty and the health and sociological faculties are placed near Mas University Hospital in the southern part of central Malmö. Here, there is an exciting continual process in operation, where education, research and professional exercise work together in close proximity.
The interest among students of Malmö University College to start their own companies is great. In accordance with a survey conducted by Drivhuset in 2005, 47% of the university college’s students say that they can imagine doing so. 35% say that that it is even probable that they will start their own company based on their ideas within the next five years. Malmö University College wishes to preserve and stimulate this spirit of enterprise. Networking, training and cooperation are some of the activities that the university college can arrange to support the students’ dreams of founding a company. In the following pages you will find out how to approach such a dream and what forms of help are available. The aim is for all persons studying at the university to be provided with instruction on entrepreneurship. Tangibly speaking, the university college makes great efforts to build bridges and mediate contact with associated institutions that can help the students to become independent. Finally, the establishment of Kaospilot is worth a mention. |
