Roskilde University (RUC) was founded in 1972 with the objective of implementing the highest levels of research and instruction.
These activities are organised throughout six institutions that offer numerous degree programmes at Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. levels. 9,186 students (as of autumn semester 2005) are enrolled at the university.
RUC is strong in the field of innovation and offers many courses and lines of study in entrepreneurship.
RUC’s school seal bears a coral reef with the Latin text: “In tranquillo mors - in fluctu vita”. This translates to English as:
“In stillness death, in the current, life”.
This is an allusion to the following characteristic of the life and death of coral: Coral can only thrive in extremely pure, saline and flowing water. This is why the organism dies on the sheltered side of the reef, while on the windward side, where the crashing waves and current are strongest, it grows and develops large and beautiful colonies. At the same time, it is the older and more calcified part of the reef that provides the necessary strength to withstand the beating of the waves for hundreds of years.
Of the lines of study with a special focus on entrepreneurship offered at RUC, the BSc in Economics and Business Studies can be mentioned, as well as the course package, “Management of Change and Innovation” for our Master’s in Business Administration. We can also boast our Institutes of Social Sciences and Business Finance, the Centre for Innovation and Change Process in service and industry, and the Centre for Experience Research. Strategic innovation, entrepreneurship in ICT network-based knowledge services and regional learning systems are among some of our future projects and areas of work and research. Furthermore, the Institute for Communication, Journalism and Computer Sciences recently began offering courses in innovation. |
