DTU is an independent university that covers most professional engineering disciplines and educates engineers at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. levels.The university has approximately 900 researchers, 6,000 students, 700 Ph.D. students, and hosts 400 foreign students a year in English language lines of study. In addition, there is an extensive further education programme.
The university has activities in, among other areas, biotechnology, communication technology and nanotechnology, and it ensures a high international profile in technical-natural sciences, based on 15 individual institutes and a number of research centres at the Lyngby campus north of Copenhagen.
DTU also offers an adjoining innovation system that offers everything from research and patenting and licensing instruction to industrial cooperation and research park activities.
DTU’s mission is to contribute to the increased value of society on sustainable basis through the following means: collaboration with research and development departments in private businesses, patenting, establishing new businesses, and educating of the university’s Master’s students and new, young researchers.
DTU works with initiatives like the Master’s in Management of Technology (MMT). The objective of this line of study is to teach participants – taking business’ technological basis as its starting point – to implement innovation and change, so that new business-related opportunities can arise. Together with the Research Centre at Hørsholm and the Technological Institute, DTU has established the company, DTU Innovation A/S.
DTU Innovation is a venture capital company that helps researchers become entrepreneurs. They regularly arrange events designed to help existing and future entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life. DTU is a participant in the Venture Cup, a Nordic business plan competition primarily for students, researchers and entrepreneurs.Scion-DTU is a DTU-owned company (subsidiary) that runs the university’s research park activities. SCION-DTU, together with DTU Innovation, the Department for Research and Innovation and Væksthus +, make up a comprehensive innovation system that facilitates technology transfers and business start-ups and development. SCION-DTU is also Denmark’s largest research park, with now more than 50 businesses located on the DTU campus. |
