In order to test for this type of cooperation, it is of course essential that the B-primed cells do not themselves make anti-NIP antibody under the experimental conditions; it is also desirable that the NIP-A primed cells should respond weakly but predictably to NIP-B, so that any enhancement of this response can be expressed quantitatively. The adoptive secondary response to NIP-bovine serum albumin (NIP-BSA) of mouse cells primed with NIP-ovalbumin (NIP-OA) fulfills both these conditions [6, 32].
