Other muscles, such as those comprismg the pelvic dtaphragm, are more deeply buried in the unconscious and, by virtue of their more subtle actions, are more difficult to isolate. The technique of recruitment can be used to bring about awareness and control of such muscle groups. Recruitment is a process whereby one contracts an easily accessed muscle group while simultaneously contracting "hidden" muscles, such as those of the pelvtc floor. Physicians use this techntque when examining the integnty of the deep tendon reflexes.
