The course will focus on the analysis of specific sustainability challenges tied to innovation, organization and management. How does sustainability affect existing industry and push for innovation? How is it challenging organizational innovations?

Aim of the course

The course will focus on the analysis of specific sustainability challenges tied to innovation, organization and management. How does sustainability affect existing industry and push for innovation? How is it challenging organizational innovations?
The course will encompass the relationship of sustainability with innovation. The focus of this course is on innovation and organization, in a management perspective. Different theoretical perspectives tied to organisation theory and innovation management will be included.
The course should make students reflect on management on the boundaries of existing structures, and understand how technology development and sustainability are influencing and are affected by organization and management.

Course content

The course is on organization and management and on how theories are challenged by the emerging field of sustainability as a driver for innovation across industries. It includes method reflection on how to study emerging phenomena within existing industry paradigms (business models, networks, entrepreneurship).
The case on energy illustrates the complexity of relations across boundaries of technology, innovation, sustainability. Sustainability as both technology and market creates challenges to the existing industry. This also challenges management, and call for new perspectives and different forms of innovation management.
